Medina scoops another award from fans

Andrea Medina has been chosen by supporters as Manchester United's Player of the Match following Sunday's 2-1 victory over West Ham United.

Medina picked up the league's official award – for the second weekend running – on Sunday afternoon, and has now topped our official poll in back-to-back games too.

A majority 59 per cent of fans who voted in the United App and on ManUtd.com opted for our Spanish summer signing, after her first goal for the club proved to be the decisive effort in the victory over the Hammers.

Elisabeth Terland had opened the scoring for the Reds in the first half, before the highlight of Andrea's standout performance came in the 72nd minute, a curling right-footed finish which picked out the far top corner.

That made it 2-0, before Viviane Asseyi's stoppage-time penalty for the visitors in Leigh set up a nervy ending to the encounter, but it would only be a consolation, with Medina's strike the difference on the afternoon.

With 30 per cent of the votes, Terland finished runner-up to Medina in our Player of the Match poll, while Hanna Lundkvist (seven per cent) and Julia Zigiotti (five per cent) were also nominated for their own impressive showings.

'I DIDN'T THINK SHE'D BE PLAYING LEFT WING!'

Captain Maya Le Tissier had the honour of presenting the league's Player of the Match award to Medina for the second weekend running at full-time, and spoke about how our new recruit is impressing in a new role.

Andrea, a defender by trade, started the season at left-back but has made her mark higher on that flank in our last two league matches, as a winger.

“I didn't think she’d be playing left wing when we signed her, but we’ve got a new position for her,” Maya joked with Sky Sports, after the final whistle.

“[She's] so good. I love playing with Medi, she's so aggressive in the tackle, gives her all and she's just a great person to have on the team. A great signing, has made some great performances as well, wherever we’ve needed her.”
