Help Phallon win an award!

Manchester United Women goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce has been nominated for the Barclays Women's Super League British Gas Save of the Month award for September – and she needs your help!

The stop in question was not only visually impressive, but it also came at a crucial time for the Reds.

The Emirates Stadium is a notoriously tough place to go, and with the score locked at 0-0 as the half-time whistle was fast approaching, Tullis-Joyce denied Arsenal the lead at an important juncture.

The Gunners' Lisa Baum lofted a pinpoint cross to formidable striker Stina Blackstenius, and when the Swede gets her head on a chance like that, on the edge of the six-yard box, all watching are expecting the net to bulge.

Phallon had other ideas.

Adjusting quickly as the ball went over, the USA goalkeeper kept her eyes trained on the ball until the last second, avoiding committing either way until Blackstenius made contact.

And it was just as well, as the forward nodded it centrally, high towards the roof of the net, but Tullis-Joyce was equal to it, launching herself up and tipping it over the bar, having had milliseconds to react.

Julia Zigiotti scored in the second half and it looked as though we were heading back up north with the three points, until a stoppage-time goal from Smilla Holmberg cruelly denied us the win.

Still, it was an important point on the road, our first in the WSL this term, and it was made possible in part thanks to that acrobatic close-quarters stop.
