Which 'Kings of the World' season had the best goals?

2026-10-04

To celebrate the release of our new book, Kings of the World, we've put out a series of top 20 goal compilations over the past week.

The book, featuring fresh insights from the likes of Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney, starts in the 2005/06 season and charts the building of arguably one of Sir Alex Ferguson's greatest teams.

It all came together in the 2007/08 campaign, where the Reds won the Premier League, UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup.

But in which of those terms did we see the best goals? First, let's refresh your memory with the 20 we selected for each season.

2005/06

This was the beginning of that memorable time, with a League Cup triumph kicking off a run of regular silverware capture.

As you might imagine, there's plenty of contributions from Rooney and Ruud van Nistelrooy here, but also contributions from the likes of Ji-Sung Park and Kieran Richardson.

2006/07

Another huge step forward came in this campaign, as we got our hands on the Premier League title for the first time in four years.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Rooney were the division's highest scorers that year, but did either manage to take top spot in our countdown?

The year it all came together, and undoubtedly one of Sir Alex Ferguson's best.
