2026-09-29

New data released by the Premier League and Opta shows our top speeds of the 2026/27 season.

New data released by the Premier League and Opta shows our top speeds of the 2026/27 season.

It is of course, early days, with clubs having completed only five of their 38 top-flight matches before the three-week pause for international action.

However, on Monday the Premier League revealed that one of our players ranks second when it comes to the fastest speeds recorded in the division so far.

Bryan Mbeumo clocked in at 35.36 kilometres per hour - a smidge under 22 miles per hour - during a second-half run at Everton earlier this month, a game in which he scored a superb opening goal.

His later, quicker foray forward was eventually thwarted by Toffees youngster Tyrique George, who timed his sliding tackle to perfection following Matheus Cunha's attempted through ball.

Only Liverpool's Bradley Barcola has been faster, with his top speed of 35.93 km/h coming on debut in their win at Ipswich Town.

The Premier League released the top 10 speeds and also listed the best figures recorded at each club.

We asked Opta about which other Reds rounded out the top five, and the data experts duly provided us with the names.

Luke Shaw is the second-fastest United player so far, as he registered a 34.43 km/h sprint in the win over Ipswich Town. Benjamin Šeško also topped the 34 mark, during the controversial defeat to Manchester City.

Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee are fourth and fifth respectively, with full details in the table below:

| | | | | --- | --- | --- | | Player | Opponent | Max speed (km/h) | | Bryan Mbeumo | Everton | 35.36 | | Luke Shaw | Ipswich | 34.43 | | Benjamin Šeško | Manchester City | 34.26 | | Marcus Rashford | Fulham | 33.43 | | Joshua Zirkzee | Manchester City | 33.1 |
