Man for all occasions

Talented defender Joško Gvardiol joined City on a five-year deal in August 2023.

The Croatian international moved from RB Leipzig, where he won two DFB Pokal Cups and played 87 times across two seasons.

He was also a key part of his nation's run to a third place finish at the 2022 World Cup, starting all seven matches.

A powerful, composed left-footed player, Gvardiol is comfortable at centre-back and left-back.

Renowned for his passing ability as much as his defensive nous, the youngster has shown incredible leadership at club and international level despite his tender age.

During two seasons in senior football in his homeland, he won two Croatian League titles, one Croatian Cup and a Croatian Super Cup before moving to Germany.

He then started his City career in style.

The defender played the entirety of our Super Cup win over Sevilla to help us secure the European showpiece for the first time in the Club's history.

Joško also played during the FIFA Club World Cup in December 2023 to claim his second major trophy with City before collecting a maiden Premier League title at the end of the season.

It wasn't just defensively he shone, scoring five goals in 42 games.

While it was tougher for the side in 2024/25, Gvardiol gave his best and was named Etihad Player of the Season after 55 appearances and six goals.

The Croatia international carried his form into 2025/26 and quickly tallied 25 appearances. But, a leg fracture saw him sidelined for four months before a welcomed return in the final few weeks of the campaign.
