Niamh Charles

Versatile full-back

England international Niamh Charles joined City in the summer of 2026 from fellow WSL side Chelsea on a three-year deal.

Since making her professional debut as a 16-year-old for Liverpool, she’s forged a reputation as one of the English game’s finest attacking full-backs.

Initially starting out as a winger, that positional shift came during her first season at Chelsea in 2020/21, and she went on to win 13 major honours with the Londoners.

That haul included five WSL titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups and one Community Shield, as well as being the youngest starter in the 2021 Champions League final, which Emma Hayes’ side lost to Barcelona.

Charles has also enjoyed huge success on the international scene, helping England to Euro 2025 glory by converting one of the Lionesses’ penalties against Spain in their final shootout victory.

With a Women’s Finalissima and two Arnold Clark Cups to boot from her international career, the defender had already won 16 major honours before making the switch to Manchester.

Part of the 2023/24 PFA WSL Team of the Season, Charles is a real threat out wide with an excellent delivery into the box and a knack for timing her runs into dangerous areas thanks to her previous experience as a winger.
