Powerful and dynamic

A player able to operate all over the pitch, Nico has progressed right through the Manchester City age-groups since signing with the Academy aged eight.

Throughout his junior days, he was most most often deployed centrally as an attacking midfielder.

In 2021/22, he played regularly for the Under-18 Premier League title winning side and made the step up for his first taste of EDS football.

He continued this form in the 2022/23 season where he made 32 appearances in all competitions, scored 13 goals and assisted 14 as he captained the Under-18 team to Under-18 Premier League glory.

O'Reilly continued his development in the EDS squad for the 2023/24 season, winning the Academy Goal of the Year prize when he scored from the halfway line against Nottingham Forest.

2024 has continued to see O'Reilly grow in stature and was one of the few Academy players selected to attend the pre-season tour to the United States. In one of the friendlies, he scored his first senior goal for the Club against Barcelona, days after making his senior debut against Celtic.

And in the 2024/25 season, the midfielder made his professional senior debut, starting in City's Community Shield penalty shoot-out triumph over Manchester United at Wembley Stadium.

As the season wore on, he became a key option for Pep Guardiola at left-back, with his energy and deep understanding of City's tactics helping him shine.

In total, he played 21 times in a breakthrough season and picked the shirt No.33 ahead of his second term of senior football.

Early in 2025/26 he penned a new long-term City contract and his season only got better from there, with his form from left-back across an astonishing 53 games earning him the Premier League Young Player of the Season and Etihad Player of the Season awards.

Not only that, he was named in England's squad for the 2026 World Cup, making the plane as first choice left-back for Thomas Tuchel's side.
