Celtic major shareholder confronted by fans at golf tournament

Celtic principal shareholder Dermot Desmond faced an unwelcome disruption at the Alfred Dunhill Links golf tournament at St Andrews on Saturday. Protesting fans threw tennis balls featuring defaced images of the businessman onto the 15th green, prompting security to escort him from the course.

The Celtic Fans Collective subsequently publicized the protest and criticized the club’s leadership and accountability. Celtic remained at the top of the Scottish Premiership, but recent defeats had intensified supporter frustration. The incident underlined the tension between the club’s position in the league and dissatisfaction with its recent performances.
