Minister Questions Impact of Government Funding for Clubs

· TotalSports1Plus

Minister Kofi Adams has questioned whether the GH¢1 million provided to Ghana Premier League clubs resulted in long-term institutional improvements.

Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has questioned the tangible benefits of the GH¢1 million grant provided to each Ghana Premier League club for the 2025/26 season. The government, in partnership with the GFA and Adesa Productions, also provided equipment and increased league prize money to bolster professional operations.

Speaking at the GFA Ordinary Congress, Adams asked what specific improvements, such as enhanced commercial departments, digital ticketing, or infrastructure, were built with the funds. He warned that the government cannot indefinitely subsidize costs if clubs do not evolve to generate their own revenue. The focus, he noted, must shift to measuring the actual value and transformation generated by such financial investments.
