FFCW Matchday Preview: Exeter City
2026-10-03
🆚 Exeter City 🏟 Motspur Park 🏆 FA WNL 🗓 Sunday 4th October ⏰ 2:00pm Fulham FC Women are back in league action on Sunday as Exeter City make the trip to Motspur Park. Steve Jaye’s side have made an excellent start to life in the Southern Premier Division, winning all four of their league games so far. Their most recent outing came away at Swindon Town, where a late brace from Rianna Dean secured a 1-2 victory. With Fulham’s fixture against AFC Wimbledon postponed, it has been two weeks since their last league game, although the team did return to competitive action last weekend with a 10-0 FA WNL Cup victory over Ascot United. Fulham currently sit third in the table with a game in hand, and with Bournemouth and Oxford United facing each other this weekend, there is an opportunity for Jaye’s side to make ground at the top of the division. The opposition Exeter have had a mixed start to the season and currently sit eighth in the table. They have picked up three positive results from their last five league games, recording one win and two draws, while their two defeats have come against the sides currently occupying the top two places, Bournemouth and Oxford United. The Grecians have scored eight league goals so far this season, with Ellie Sara responsible for four of them, placing her second in the golden boot race behind Holly Manders from Oxford United. Her four appearances have produced an impressive return, making her a player Fulham will need to keep a close eye on. The two sides last met in the Cup last season, when Exeter ran out 4-2 winners, with Sophie Gillies scoring a hat-trick. Gillies has since joined Fulham, meaning Sunday will be the first time she faces her former club since making the move to Motspur Park. With two weeks between league fixtures, Fulham will be looking to quickly find their rhythm again and continue the strong start they have made to their first season in the Southern Premier Division.
