George Impresses As England Under-21s Qualify For Euros

2026-10-02

Tyrique George and Tyler Dibling both featured for England Under-21s as a goalless draw against Slovakia secured their place in the UEFA European Under-21s Championship next summer. George would impress from the start as he played just over an hour for Lee Carsley’s side, recording seven successful dribbles and winning seven ground duels. The 19-year-old was inches away from turning home Will Lankshear’s header, narrowly missing the ball, and attempted one bicycle kick before being withdrawn but his effort was off-target. Winger Dibling came on as a substitute with just under half-an-hour to play, ending the game with a 95 per cent passing accuracy. One late cross from Dibling just needed a touch to finally break the deadlock but it narrowly evaded the incoming Divin Mubama. Harrison Armstrong, freshly drafted into the Under-21s having started the window with England’s Under-20s, was an unused substitute. Carsley’s Young Lions face Ireland in Cork in their final group fixture on Tuesday. Forward Braiden Graham was an unused substitute as Northern Ireland continued their fine form with a 3-0 win over Ukraine in Slovakia. Ukraine, who were without Toffees left-back Vitalii Mykolenko, had no answer to a fine performance from the Green and White Army, with Everton Academy graduate Isaac Price on target between a brace from Ciaron Brown. Michael O’Neill’s side go top of UEFA Nations League B2 with seven points from their opening three games in this international window, with a home clash against Georgia still to come on Monday. Meanwhile Under-21s centre-back Luis Gardner wore the captain’s armband and played 68 minutes of Wales Under-19s’ 2-0 defeat to Norway. Igor Gosik and Philip Karlsen got the all-important goals for the Norwegians as the Dragons fell to a second successive 2-0 setback, days after losing in a friendly to the United States.
