2026-10-01
We've selected the 10 most breathtaking games and YOU can vote for your favourite
The 2026/27 Premier League season has already produced more than its fair share of brilliant matches.
Across the first five rounds of fixtures, 141 goals have been scored, which is an average of 2.82 per game. A remarkable 10 matches — that’s one in five — have featured five or more goals.
So, which match had you on the edge of your seat the most? Was it one of Chelsea's high-scoring games against Brighton & Hove Albion, Fulham or Hull City? Or maybe Aston Villa's thrilling victory over Tottenham Hotspur, featuring two contenders for September's Guinness Goal of the Month award?
It's time for YOU to decide which match was the best by voting in the poll below.
The Premier League season started with a bang. On the opening weekend, the headline fixture at St. James' Park was a thriller for the ages, an end-to-end classic reminiscent of the famous 4-3 meetings between the clubs from the 1990s.
It began with an Anthony Elanga strike within the first five minutes and the pace never relented, right up until Dominik Szoboszlai’s penalty in the eighth minute of second-half stoppage time which rescued a point in Andoni Iraola’s first game as Liverpool head coach.
The first Monday night match of the season was a hugely entertaining ding-dong battle under the lights at Craven Cottage, where two debut managers (and close friends), Alvaro Arbeloa and Xabi Alonso, went head-to-head.
Joao Pedro, Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer were all on target for Chelsea, but Fulham, who scored the fifth and final goal of the match in the 54th minute, could easily have taken a point.
Alonso’s new-look side were at it again in Matchweek Two, scoring for fun but conceding freely too. Romeo Lavia scored his first Chelsea goal inside the first five minutes, while Joao Pedro and Palmer were again on the scoresheet.
Although Brighton lost the match, it was a sign of things to come for the Seagulls who are currently the Premier League's top-scoring side, with 16 goals.
After watching their team lose 2-0 at Hull on the opening weekend, Man Utd fans grew fearful when another newly-promoted club, Ipswich Town, took a first-half lead at Old Trafford in Matchweek Two.
However, Bruno Fernandes came to the rescue for the hosts, scoring a brilliant hat-trick (his third for the club) as Man Utd hit five in a scintillating attacking performance. They had 33 shots in total, their most in a Premier League match since October 2016.
Crystal Palace twice came from behind to beat Fulham at Craven Cottage and earn their first Premier League win under Pierre Sage in an end-to-end London derby.
Palace had lost their opening two games and were in danger of losing a third before goals from Tyrick Mitchell and Ben Chilwell turned the match on its head.
Arguably the most dramatic moment of the season so far was Ainsley-Maitland Niles’ stunning 25-yard stoppage time curler that earned a point for Everton against Man Utd.
It capped a thrilling end to the game which featured three goals from the 83rd minute onward. Maitland-Niles' first Premier League strike since December 2019 was most certainly a memorable one.
When Rogers struck in the seventh minute at Stamford Bridge it looked as though Hull’s remarkable start to the campaign (seven points from three games) may come to an end.
But Mohamed Belloumi scored twice in six first-half minute to turn the game on its head, before a Palmer equaliser denied the Tigers a famous victory.
There was high drama at the Stadium of Light in September, where momentum swung one way then the other in a manic 120-second period that could end up being crucial in the title race.
David Raya brilliantly saved a penalty with the score at 0-0 in the 56th minute shortly before Bruno Guimaraes scored a thunderbolt at the other end.
Arsenal sealed the win in the dying seconds when Bukayo Saka converted a penalty after a foul by Reinildo Mandava, earning the Sunderland man his second yellow card.
Spurs and Villa entered Matchweek Five without a Premier League win between them, a statistic that helped to create an absorbing first 45 minutes — before Villa scored on the brink of half-time and began to pull away.
New signings Johan Manzambi and Nicolas Jackson were both on target before Emiliano Buendia's wonder-goal made sure of the points for Unai Emery's side.
Despite their defeat, there was an encouraging end to the match for Spurs, who scored their first goals of the Premier League season with two late strikes.
The highest-scoring game of 2026/27 so far came on the last Sunday before the international break, when Manchester City maintained their 100 per cent winning start.
But they did not have it all their own way. Brian Brobbey became just the fifth player in Premier League history to score a hat-trick for the losing side as Sunderland put Man City under constant pressure, right up until Erling Haaland scored in the 81st minute to restore a two-goal buffer.
Haaland's goal means he has now scored against all 25 clubs he has faced in the Premier League.
