Who has run the furthest in the Premier League this season?
2026-09-29
We look at the players and clubs who have covered the longest distances on the pitch in 2026/27
Two players at opposite stages of their careers have run the furthest across the first five matches of the 2026/27 Premier League season.
Everton’s 19-year-old midfielder Harrison Armstrong leads the way to this point, as the only individual to run more than 60km in total.
The first teenager to start each of the Toffees’ first five Premier League matches since Ross Barkley in 2013/14 is making a real impression, with and without the ball. Brighton & Hove Albion's Pascal Gross, at the age of 35, is Armstrong's nearest challenger in this department. In sensational form for the Seagulls, both scoring and making goals, the experienced German also happens to be one of the division's most industrious performers.
Leeds United are the only club to have three players inside the top 10 for distance covered; a stat which highlights how fit Daniel Farke's side are.
Player Distance (km)
Armstrong (EVE) 60.4
Gross (BHA) 59.7
Janelt (BRE) 59.0
Stach (LEE) 58.3
Scott (BOU) 57.8
Justin (LEE) 57.0
Slater (HUL) 56.9
Xhaka (SUN) 56.8
Ampadu (LEE) 56.6
Truffert (BOU) 56.5
Armstrong ran a remarkable 12.9km during Everton’s 1-0 win at home to Ipswich Town in mid-September, a total that was 1.1km further than anybody else on the pitch that day. His closest challenger for a single match this season is Sunderland summer signing Thomas Meunier, another 35-year-old, who covered 12.76km against Fulham.
Fulham full-back Timothy Castagne features twice inside the top six for most distance run in a single match.
Arsenal’s Kai Havertz has posted the highest figure of any striker, running 12.32km in the champions' 1-0 win at Aston Villa.
Player Distance (km) Opponent

Hard running is never a guarantee of success, but one of the foundations behind Arsenal’s title triumph last season was a tremendous work ethic. So, Mikel Arteta will be pleased the champions have run further than anyone else so far in 2026/27, averaging an impressive 118.72km per 90 minutes.
Fulham and Brentford are also among the hardest-working teams when it comes to running long distances in matches.
Interestingly, Liverpool – who have made the most sprints – are ranked 20th in the distance-covered department, running over 8km less than the Gunners per match.
This suggests Andoni Iraola's team prefer to run with intensity in short bursts, rather than playing at a constantly high tempo.
