Manchester United hierarchy reportedly accept transfer-window shortfall

United insiders are said to be dissatisfied with the second phase of the squad rebuild after a difficult start.

Manchester United power brokers privately accept that they fell short in the transfer window, according to the supplied report.
United have won one of their first six Premier League games in what the report describes as their worst start to a season in 40 years. They were also eliminated from the League Cup by Brighton after leading by two goals at Old Trafford, the first such home defeat since September 1976.
Supporters booed at three separate stages during Saturday’s 1–1 draw with Tottenham, who were bottom at kick-off.
Although pressure is mounting on head coach Michael Carrick, the report says the hierarchy was not satisfied with the second phase of the squad rebuild.
United invested £225.2million to bring in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens last year, but this summer’s spending dropped to £155million.
Carlos Baleba, signed for a reported £70million, made his debut in the draw with Tottenham. He was a long-term target, but United insiders reportedly admitted Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos were “a long way down the list”.
Elliot Anderson, Mateus Fernandes, Aurelien Tchouameni and Ederson were United’s preferred midfield picks, according to the report.
The report says Tottenham outbid United to sign Fernandes before adding Sandro Tonali for £100million. Anderson had reportedly settled on a move to Manchester City months before it was completed in July.
