Manchester United 1-1 Tottenham: Solanke rescues late point for ten-man Spurs
2026-10-10
Dominic Solanke’s stoppage-time header cancelled out Bryan Mbeumo’s opener after Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off.

Dominic Solanke's stoppage-time equaliser rescued a point for 10-man Tottenham Hotspur as they drew 1-1 with Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Having spent the international break bottom of the Premier League table, Roberto De Zerbi's visitors turned in a much-improved performance, only to pass up several big chances and fall behind to Bryan Mbeumo's 73rd-minute strike.
And when substitute Rodrigo Bentancur initiated head-to-head contact with Luke Shaw and was sent off for violent conduct, Spurs' hopes of a comeback looked to be over.
But at the start of eight additional minutes, the home fans were stunned into silence as Solanke escaped Lisandro Martinez's attention and glanced Sandro Tonali's cross into the far corner.
How the match unfolded
In the third minute United almost gifted Spurs a goal, with Senne Lammens thwarting Solanke to atone for his own misplaced pass, which had been picked off by Lucas Bergvall.
That was a sign of things to come as the Red Devils struggled to escape their own territory, and an electric Spurs attack down the left resulted in Mohammed Kudus shooting wide on the turn.
The half-time whistle sparked some boos from the disgruntled home fans after Spurs passed up another decent chance. Conor Gallagher bundled his way into the area and saw a clearance ricochet back off him, forcing Lammens into action again.
United got two more let-offs at the start of the second half, as Savio saw one centre cleared off the line by Shaw and another hooked over by Solanke, and though Youri Tielemans put the ball in the net at the other end, it had clearly gone out of play in the build-up.
But a triple substitution by Michael Carrick injected more energy into United's play, and one of those introduced soon set up their opening goal. Mbeumo had plenty of company when Matheus Cunha found him inside a crowded penalty area, but he still had time to turn and roll his finish into the bottom-right corner.
Bentancur's loss of composure, which came after he was shoved to the ground by Shaw, made Spurs' task even more difficult, but they still escaped with a point.
From Tonali's cross, Solanke got the better of Martinez and the striker's header extended United's winless run to four Premier League games.
They are 12th in the table with six points, and while Spurs are yet to taste victory, they climb two places to 18th.
