AS Douanes edge Hafia in Conakry to advance in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup

Mauritanian side AS Douanes booked their place in the second preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup with a 1-0 away victory over Hafia FC of Guinea in their postponed clash in Conakry on Saturday.

Mouhsen Bodda scored the decisive goal in the 73rd minute at the Stade du 28 Septembre as AS Douanes completed a 3-2 aggregate victory.

The first leg in Nouakchott had ended in a 2-2 draw, leaving the tie finely balanced ahead of the return fixture in Guinea.

Neither side was able to break the deadlock during a tightly contested first half, with both teams knowing that one goal could prove decisive.

AS Douanes eventually found the breakthrough with 17 minutes remaining when Bodda struck to put the Mauritanian club ahead.

Hafia pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but the visitors protected their advantage to secure qualification away from home.

The result ends Hafia's campaign at the first preliminary-round stage, while AS Douanes advance to face Algerian club CR Belouizdad in the next round.

CR Belouizdad, who have considerable experience in CAF club competitions, will provide another difficult test for the Mauritanian side as they continue their bid to reach the group stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
