Scanlon scores and Odegaard assists in Nations League

2026-10-02 · Arsenal Media

James Scanlon scored a superb goal and Martin Odegaard picked up another assist on international duty

Martin Odegaard picked up another assist on international duty as 10-player Norway fell to a 2-1 defeat at Wales in the UEFA Nations League.

After providing two assists against Denmark, Odegaard was at it again, setting up Fulham's Oscar Bobb with a perfectly weighted pass to give Norway the lead in Cardiff.

But disaster struck for the visitors as Dan James equalised before Torbjorn Heggem was sent off seconds into the second half. Neco Williams scored from the resulting free-kick to give Wales the win.

The result puts Norway in third place, level on points with Denmark in second and Wales in fourth. Martin and his teammates head to Porto to face group leaders Portugal on Sunday.

Meanwhile, James Scanlon was shining for Gibraltar, scoring a superb solo goal in their 1-1 draw with Malta in the Nations League.

Picking up the ball near the halfway line, James dribbled past three players before getting his shot away, which deflected over goalkeeper Henry Bonello as Gibraltar rescued a point. The result puts Gibraltar on two points at the halfway mark of the group, with Malta two points ahead at the top.

Lastly, Jurrien Timber and Christos Tzolis both started as Greece and the Netherlands played out a 2-2 draw in Thessaloniki.

Christos was replaced after 18 minutes as the Greeks raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to Fotis Ioannidis and Giorgos Masouras. But the Netherlands came back in the second half through Virgil van Dijk and Tijjani Reijnders to ensure both sides remain unbeaten in Group 2 of League A. Jurrien played 78 minutes for Oranje before being replaced by Gjivai Zechiel.

Greece host Germany, who picked up their first win of the group last night against Serbia, on Sunday night. The Netherlands, meanwhile, will be at home to Serbia on the same evening.
