Bruno scores for Brazil and Merino assists in Spain win

2026-09-30 · Charlie Peat

Bruno Guimaraes found the net and Mikel Merino provided an assist on a busy night of internationals

Bruno Guimaraes netted his fourth international goal as our midfielder helped Brazil beat Australia 4-2 in Brisbane.

Having played the Socceroos last week, the nations faced off once more in a six-goal thriller at the Suncorp Stadium. With the game locked at 2-2, Brunol fired home in the 69th minute to edge Selecao ahead, before Vinicius Jr completed the victory with a late penalty.

Having not featured in the 1-1 draw between the two sides last week, Gabriel Magalhaes played the full 90 minutes for Carlo Ancelotti's side - the only Brazilian outfield player to do so.

Brazil now head to Kolkata to take on India in a first-ever match between the two nations.

Over in Seville, two of our Gunners were playing their part in Spain's comfortable 4-1 win over Croatia in the Nations League.

An unused sub in the first Nations League match, Martin Zubimendi started and played 72 minutes for Luis de la Fuente's side, as a Lamine Yamal double and Marc Pubill's effort put La Roja in a commanding 3-1 lead.

Mikel Merino was introduced on 57 minutes, and he provided the assist for Nico Williams in the 89th minute to round off the scoring and make it two wins from two for the world champions.

In the same group, England bounced back from defeat to Spain last time out with a 2-0 victory over Czechia.

Myles Lewis-Skelly and Bukayo Saka both started again for Thomas Tuchel's side, who were handed an early advantage when Pavel Sulc was dismissed for the hosts after a high challenge on Elliot Anderson.

MLS was substituted at half-time, replaced by fellow Gunner Ebere Eze for the second half. England made the breakthrough after 47 minutes as Anthony Gordon netted before Harry Kane sealed the points on 69 minutes. Ezri Konsa was not in the squad.

The two results mean Spain sit comfortably at the top of League A, Group 3, with England in second, tied with Croatia on points, with Czechia propping up the standings.

The Three Lions head to Croatia on Saturday, while Spain host the Czechs in Oviedo the same day.
